This book contains a collection of Mother Goose nursery rhymes. Some of the rhymes are popular and familiar including "Pat-a-Cake", "The Cat and the Fiddle", and "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep", while many are more unknown. The collection of rhymes is written in its original form and is not shorten as some may have been known to be. There are colorful illustrations throughout that represent the rhymes in a classic English style. Many of the rhymes are nonsensical and would be appropriate for younger children to develop their phonological awareness and pass on the tradition. Since the rhymes are from centuries ago, some rhymes may be less appropriate now than it was originally seen such as the farmer's wife in "Three Blind Mice" who had cut off their tails. I would use this book in the classroom to focus on the rhyme that the nursery rhymes had. I would also look at the historical context and language and identify the many works, clothing, tools, and words that are not commonly used anymore.
