Part of the Community Helpers series, Let's Meet a Doctor follows a class that learns from Dr. Zambil, a pediatrician, about what a doctor is and what they do. Dr. Zambil explains to the class what he does in his clinic and answers the student's questions. Doctors see patients when they are sick or hurt or even when they are not during checkups. He also talks about the schooling needed to become a doctor. While doctors do their best to help people feel better, it is our responsibility to do what we can to stay healthy. This is a good book that breaks down the roles of a doctor in a way for children to understand and learn more. It contains a glossary to define some of the more advanced words and an activity to make a stethoscope. I would use this book during career week as students learn about various careers and occupations that they may be interested in. Just like the class in the book, I may ask a guest speaker to share their career and role in the community. Students can do a career project where they research different careers, dress up, and share what they do.

Red, Purple, Beige, Grey, White, Black, Green, Yellow, Orange, Blue, Pink, and Peach crayon all had something to tell Duncan. Some complained that they were overused while others felt they were under appreciated. Some crayons wanted to have a change in purpose and color something out of the norm. After reading all of the letters, Duncan took into consideration all of their complaints and suggestions to create a picture that his teacher gave a "good work" sticker and gold star for the coloring and creativity. Along the journey, they find straw, sticks, and bricks to build their respective houses. A big bad wolf blows down Vinny's straw house and Lenny's stick house but is unable to blow down Jimmy's strong brick house. The wolf tries going down the chimney but runs away after touching the boiling water trap.  This retelling of "The Three Little Pigs" is suitable for younger students because it is simplified from the more well-known version and all of the characters survive. The text and illustrations are large so it can be easily seen during read-aloud.
